Any time I try to click a star, Kinja jumps to the top of the page without registering the star as clicked.

Useful if I had wanted to get to the top of the page quickly, but I really had wanted to click that star.

I also cannot post a reply and have it register. If I reload the page, it shows, but unless I do that I only see a continuous loading screen or a greyed-out publish button.

Please fix.

W10, FF. I have logged out of my account and logged back in. I also cleared my browser cache.

Try refreshing the page. That’s always worked for me when that happens.

I hadn’t seen that, been too busy actually working today. I would recommend your reply, but, well you get it...

It was from 2 days ago... I just meant this seems a quite long-lived dos of kinja.

And yeah. Exactly.

Are you using any ad-blocking software? If that’s the case, disable it, restart your browser and then try again - if still having trouble send us an email at Help@gawker.com so we can troubleshoot.

Sounds like Kinja’s working as normal.

It only happens on Firefox, with or without Adblocker. Chrome seems to be fine. Firefox is completely fucked though. Work on that.

I would recommend this thread, but nothing happens. When I try to recommend a post (click the star), it jumps to the top of the page and when I scroll back down I see that my click didn’t add anything to the number of recommendations (also, the star doesn’t change color). It is incredibly frusting! Yes, I use Firefox on Windows and have an adblocker, which I am happy to disable for pages that provide quality content, but I/no one should have to disable adblockers altogether! [I just tried disabling my adblocker for this page only and shift-reloaded the page and now the stars are working and the page isn’t jumping. It is really irresponsible to advise people to disable adblockers and restart their browser!]

BTW, I had a very similar problem using Safari on a Mac, where the page jumped to the top when I tried to reply to a comment or hit a star. This was before I had a verified account, so I assumed it did that to point me towards logging in, but with no information provided it was just annoying, not helpful. It’s not hard to have information pop up to explain that someone needs to disable adblockers or register or login to an account.

You really need to delete the code/bug that send users to the top of the page, if only for your client’s (Gawker Media) sake so people read the comments (it’s a huge PITA to scroll back down after reading a couple dozen or more comments). Gawker should demand that Kinja do better, or switch to another platform!

I finally got it working by disabling my ad-blocker “for this page only” (if that doesn’t work, try also refreshing the page... if it still doesn’t work try holding the shift key while refreshing... don’t got to the trouble of restarting your entire browser if you don’t have to!).

It is really messed up to tell people they have to disable their ad-blockers altogether! I’m happy to disable ad-blocker for a page with worthwhile content on a site that isn’t covered with ads that cover every inch, and/or slow down loading, and/or cause my browser to crash. I’ll pay for articles that are worthwhile on sites that don’t overdo the ads (or are just click-bait) with my eyeballs on the ads, but we’re all inundated enough with advertising everywhere to just accept it.

Glad it worked after disabling - unfortunately, we don’t create fixes around specific plug-ins / extensions (even ad-blockers) otherwise we have to do the same for all of them - your best bet is to just keep it off
